Bringing arts and cultural programmes to neighbourhoods, empty shops and other commercial spaces, the project also involves organising events to celebrate Nelson’s cultural diversity through music, art and workshops.
Thanks to Government Town Deal funding of £730,000, This is Nelson will also improve health and wellbeing through activities in open spaces, including our parks.
The project is led by In-Situ, a Pendle organisation involved in the arts, community engagement and ecology, working closely with community partners Building Bridges and Super Slow Way.
The programme for 2023 includes four commissioned artists/researchers spending time in the community getting to know the town and uncovering exciting opportunities for future projects.
The project is also designed to reinforce the town’s role as a key service centre, meeting the needs of the community.
