Making Nelson more accessible and safer for pedestrians and cyclists, with improved traffic flow for drivers, is the focus of this project which has £3,463,952 of investment from the Government’s Town Deal fund.
Additional Government funding from Lancashire County Council will also support this project through the Active Travel Fund.
Accessible Nelson will improve traffic flow into and through the town and introduce better walking and cycling opportunities so that it's greener and more attractive for everyone.
Projects will be in the following areas:
- Detail Area 1: Scotland Road and Liverpool and Leeds Canal gateway
- Detail Area 2: Scotland Road
- Detail Area 3: New Scotland Road
- Detail Area 4: Leeds Road / New Scotland Road junction
- Detail Area 5: Sagar Street / Holme Street junction
- Detail Area 6: Railway Street / Broadway
- Detail Area 7: Manchester Road Junction
Detail Area 5 will be the first scheme to get underway in early autumn.
Sagar Street car park will be unavailable for approximately 18 months during the work.
