Welcome to
Nelson Town Deal.

Nelson is one of 101 towns in England selected to pioneer a new ‘Town Deal’.

We have been given a once in a generation opportunity to secure funding of up to £25mill from the Government’s new Towns Fund to support improvements across the town under the themes of:

  • Regeneration
  • Skills and Enterprise
  • Connectivity

It’s vital that local businesses and the community are involved in helping us to develop plans which will make a real difference to people in our area.

We want you to help and have your say!

The aim of the Towns Fund is to deliver long term economic growth. The funding is focussed on 3 key themes:

theme one

For example, improving local buildings/assets and bringing back into use vacant or underutilised sites.

theme two
Skills & Enterprise.

Supporting business development and opportunities to improve skills.

theme three

Improving local transport and digital connectivity.

Nelson Town Deal

In order to access the funding, Nelson has established a Town Deal Board. This is made up of representatives from local businesses, community and voluntary sector organisations, the MP, the Youth Council, and public sector bodies such as Pendle Council, Nelson Town Council, Lancashire County Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.

Investment Plan

One of the key tasks of the Board is to develop a Town Investment Plan. This Plan must set out a clear understanding of the area in terms of its needs, the challenges it faces and the opportunities to improve the future of Nelson. The Town Investment Plan will set out a clear vision and strategy for the economic growth of Nelson over the next decade, including recovery from the current COVID crisis.

Progress & Development

The plan will include details of the projects we want to deliver in order to achieve our vision and the amount of funding we require from the Government. Once prepared, the plan will be submitted to the Government for them to consider. Updates on progress with developing the plan and ways in which you can get involved will be posted on this website.
